| Swedish & Deep Tissue Swedish massage combines a variety of stokes that work on the superficial layers of the muscles, combined with active and passive movements of the joints. Deep tissue uses slower strokes and more direct pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles. It is a process of detecting stiff or painful areas by determining the quality and texture of the deeper layers of musculature, and slowly working into the deep layers of muscle tissue. Specific hand positions and strokes are used to respond to various tissue qualities. Both techniques are used to improve circulation, relieve muscle pain and tension, increase flexibility and induce relaxation. Sports Massage Sports Massage is a special focused massage that is typically used before, during, and after athletic events, to prepare the athlete for peak performance, drain away fatigue, relieve swelling, reduce muscle tension, promote flexibility and to prevent injuries. I understand the process of athletic training and competition, the physiology of muscle function, what happens when someone trains and competes, and the kinesiology of movement for particular sports. Foot Reflexology This dynamic, ancient healing art and science addresses the vital energy (ch'i) in the body. The focus is to stimulate and clear congestions in the meridians allowing the energy to flow freely so that the body can achieve a state of balance. This self-healing process is facilitated by specific acupressure and massage techniques being applied to the major reflex points and meridians on the feet. Shiatsu Shiatsu means "finger pressure" in Japanese. Using a series of techniques practitioners apply rhythmic finger pressure at specific points on the body in order to stimulate chi (vital energy), and stretches to release blockages on the body's energy ways (meridians). |
